The Sutton Hoo Helmet
The original helmet (or rather what pieces were left of it) was found in 1939 while digging for a ship grave in Sutton Hoo, near Woodbridge, Suffolk, England.
It was probably added to a nobleman's grave around 750-775 AD. Historically it is similar to other early medieval germanic helmets such as those from Vendel and Valsgarde (Sweden). The assembled original pieces are displayed alongside an intricate reconstruction by the Royal Armouries in the British Museum in London.
Our replica is not as perfect as the Royal Armouries reconstruction, but it is a very attractive and wearable highlight of early medieval armour.
