Knight's Main Gauche (Full-Size Oak)

Product Code: TAOBMG

This, the Main Gauche (left fist), or a similar-sized dirk, was always carried about by a knight on his belt. As the name suggests, it was his secondary blade used alongside his arming sword in combat and as a pricker for meat from an eating board when at rest. By the late Middle Ages it had been replaced by the Poignard. In an age when a man's rank in society was obvious by the "cut of his clothe" (the way he dressed), belt dirks like this one would often be very ornate.

40cm/15.75" long approx.
